Gillian Turner
Gillian Turner is an award-winning science communicator and a 2010 Wellingtonian of the Year. She was born in South Wales and educated at Croesyceiliog Grammar School, Cambridge University and Edinburgh University, where she gained a PhD in geophysics. Since 1982 she has held a lectureship in physics and geophysics at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. She has won awards for sustained excellence in teaching and innovation in teaching methods, and has published over 50 articles in scientific journals. Gillian Turner lives in Wellington with her husband, physicist Malcolm Ingham. She is a competitive orienteer who has represented New Zealand, and for time out she takes long runs in the mountains.
